Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Mammography Screening
Third Edition (September 2008)
ISBN 978-0-9545875-2-9
Published by The National Breast Screening Board
This document outlines the requirements of Quality Assurance for the National Breast Screening Programme with detailed guidance for the medical, diagnostic and technical aspects of screening itself. It is a comprehensive document that sets the standard guidelines which allow for a centralised system of assessment. It sets out the objectives, policies and organisational procedures, which ensure that quality requirements are achieved. The Quality Guidelines are therefore a full documentation of the quality system.
It will be a dynamic document. Additions and amendments will be issued periodically, following approval. Updates will be issued to all holders of the Guidelines.
The Quality Assurance Guidelines will be reviewed approximately every five years.

A Guide to Breast Screening
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in Ireland. About 1 in 12 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. It is more common in women aged 50 and over.
Women with learning disabilities should have access to breast screening on the same basis as other women.
The purpose of this guide is to help encourage their participation as much as possible.
