BREASTCHECK BRINGS MOBILE TO RATHMINES

- 20 April 2010

BreastCheck – The National Breast Screening Programme has located a mobile digital screening unit in Rathmines for the first time to provide up to 3,000 women aged 50 to 64 with their free breast x-rays (mammograms).

The mobile is located in the grounds of the Church of Ireland, College of Education, 96 Upper Rathmines Road, Dublin 6.

While women living in Rathmines have been screened by BreastCheck previously, this is the first time a mobile unit has been on location in Rathmines. With screening provided locally, it is hoped that every woman in the area will attend her appointment when invited.

A BreastCheck mammogram is a simple procedure and the appointment only takes about half an hour in total. The vast majority of women screened by BreastCheck are found to be perfectly healthy.

Eligible women aged 50 to 64 will be called from Rathmines and surrounding areas including parts of Harolds Cross, Ranelagh and Rathgar. Should the appointment time offered by BreastCheck not suit, invited women are encouraged to contact the BreastCheck Merrion Unit on 01 223 5800 to rearrange their appointment.

BreastCheck encourages all women aged 50 to 64 living in the Rathmines area to check that they are on the BreastCheck register by calling Freephone 1800 45 45 55 or checking online at www.breastcheck.ie. Once registered and known to the Programme they will automatically receive an appointment.

If a woman is not on the BreastCheck register, there are two simple ways to have her details added. She can either register herself online in the ‘self search and register online’ section of www.breastcheck.ie or there are self registration forms available from BreastCheck that can be completed and returned by Freepost. These forms are available on request by calling the BreastCheck information line on Freephone 1800 45 45 55.
