FREE INFORMATION DAY FOR WOMEN IN TRAMORE

- 25 February 2010

To mark International Women’s week, Respond Waterford and the National Cancer Screening Service (NCSS) are hosting an information morning on the BreastCheck and CervicalCheck screening programmes for women in the Tramore area.

On Tuesday 9 March the NCSS will host an information session in the Respond community building, Ard Na Ghleanna, Tramore. NCSS Screening Promotion Officer Aoife Collins will provide vital information about the importance of breast and cervical screening, how to be breast aware and how women can ensure they are registered for both programmes. She will also be available to women on a one to one basis to answer any queries or questions women may have. Light refreshments will served on the day.

BreastCheck – The National Breast Screening Programme provides free mammograms (breast x-rays) to women aged 50 to 64. BreastCheck is currently screening women in Waterford City from a mobile digital screening unit located in the grounds of the Whitfield Clinic. A  BreastCheck appointment only takes about half an hour in total and the vast majority of women screened are found to be perfectly healthy. BreastCheck encourages all invited women to attend their appointment.

CervicalCheck – The National Cervical Screening Programme provides free smear tests to women aged 25 to 60. A smear test only takes minutes and is the most effective way of detecting changes in the cells of the cervix (neck of the womb).
