BREASTCHECK COMMENDS WORK OF BREAST CANCER CHARITIES
- 10 July 2009
BreastCheck - The National Breast Screening Programme would like to commend the crucial contribution made by charitable organisations in providing information and support to women affected by breast cancer in Ireland.
Charities like Action Breast Cancer (Irish Cancer Society), the Marie Keating Foundation and Breast Cancer Ireland raise funds to deliver a range of services for breast cancer patients. These include help lines, counselling services, patient grants, mobile information units and conducting research to improve treatment options for women with breast cancer.
As a Government funded programme BreastCheck does not engage in public fundraising or accept charitable donations. BreastCheck – The National Breast Screening Programme provides free breast x-rays (mammograms) to women aged 50-64. It aims to reduce deaths from breast cancer by finding and treating the disease at an early stage.
